For my first film review, I decided to go along with the Valentine’s week theme but not entirely. Instead of honoring love in all of its glory, let’s focus on a theme that probably a lot of people know but, then again, a lot of people don’t.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, is a story about Andie Anderson, a journalist for a women’s magazine, who decides to write a column contrary to what we would normally write. She decides to find a man, make him fall in love with her, and then get dumped by doing all the wrong things a woman shouldn’t do when she is in a relationship… all in 10 days! On the other hand, Benjamin Barry, an ad advertiser for a men’s magazine, makes a bet at work where he needs to find a woman, make her fall in love with him, and get her to admit it… in 10 days! How will these two convenient stories intertwine?

Director: Donald Petrie

Actos of Interest: Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Rated PG-13

Watch when… you’re in the need to watch something romantic yet don’t want to get into the sappy mood that a story like Romeo and Juliet brings, for example. It is also the perfect movie to know what not to do when you date a man, therefore the insight is a very rewarding and knowledgeable one. It’s a must see with friends!

Opinion: This is a movie I absolutely love! I’ve watched it more times than I  can count but it is because it is a very feel good movie with a lot of laughs. Both main actors, Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, have worked together before and I completely love the chemistry and the comedic relief they both bring to each other. In terms of backstage work, the script is very well written and the use of frames is a good one.
